Since June 2026, LyoWave's full product suite - TurboDry™, TurboThaw™, and LyoVision™ - has been running at Simtra BioPharma Solutions in Bloomington, Indiana, marking the first CDMO deployment of our microwave-assisted lyophilization and thawing technology.
LyoWave has installed its full product suite - TurboDry™, TurboThaw™, and LyoVision™ - at Simtra BioPharma Solutions in Bloomington, Indiana, marking the first deployment of LyoWave's microwave-assisted lyophilization technology at a contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO).
The installation gives Simtra hands-on access to evaluate how LyoWave's technology performs within a live CDMO workflow. The Simtra team is now running its own experiments on the equipment to assess fit for their process needs - from accelerated primary drying with TurboDry™, to controlled-rate thawing with TurboThaw™, to real-time thermal imaging and process analytical technology with LyoVision™.

The project is supported by a BioCAN grant through Heartland BioWorks, an initiative funded by the U.S. Economic Development Administration and administered by the Applied Research Institute (ARI) to connect Indiana biotech innovators with the state's CDMO and lab infrastructure. The grant is helping offset the cost of bringing LyoWave's equipment into a commercial product development pipeline for the first time.
For LyoWave, the Simtra installation is a proof point for a broader thesis: that RF/microwave-assisted lyophilization can move from lab-scale demonstration into real CDMO operations. As Simtra's evaluation progresses, LyoWave expects to share more on how the technology is compatible with a diverse set of injectible biologics.
